After a not so great past year, with an adventurous hour spent in a jail in Los Angeles County and people getting more worried about her ridiculously thin figure, Nicole Richie’s year got a kickoff start with the birth of her daughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden. This is the first child for Nicole Richie and Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden couple.

Friday was a crowded day at the Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, as other celeb babies were about to make their debut. Christina Aguilera and Courtney Thorne Smith were reportedly also waiting somewhere in the maternity ward to welcome their new born babies.

Nicole was surrounded by her family at the hospital, as reporters saw her adoptive father, singer, songwriter and producer Lionel Richie arriving at the hospital with Nicole’s half sister Sophia, and other few people who were there to welcome the newly born baby girl.

Harlow Winter Kate Madden is the result of a one year relationship between the Simple Life’s star and Hilary Duff’s ex boyfriend rock singer, who confirmed they were expecting a baby in August, after waves of speculations had already started circling the newspapers and magazines.

Following the short time in prison she spent in August, for driving under the influence of drugs, Nicole seemed to have had a wake-up call, as she told Diane Sawyer in an interview, even though she and boyfriend Joel Madden were not yet planning on having a baby yet.

Nicole said in the Diane Sawyer interview: “I owe this baby everything, and I have a responsibility now for someone else. I have to set the right examples. I want to be the best parent I can be. I would really want to be someone my child would look up to.”And one good start was the November inauguration of the Richie-Madden Children’s Foundation, in honor of their highly awaited baby.
