Yet another actress is talking about possibly retiring from
acting and focusing on her children and family – Nicole Kidman confessed at the
world premiere of her latest film that she has other interests in life besides
acting.
Nicole Kidman has a new movie out, the period epic “Australia” and attended Tuesday its world
premiere in Sydney, Australia. She revealed during a
press conference that her acting career may be at a crossroads, as she is
considering having more children rather than making more films, per Reuters.
Kidman, 41, is mother to three children. Isabella, 15, and
Connor, 13, adopted during her 10-year marriage to Tom Cruise, and 4-month-old Sunday
Rose with her country singer husband Keith Urban. The Australian actress, who
has been very candid this past year about her yearning to have a child, said
she “may just choose to have some more children.”
She also talked about her film choices, admitting she has “quirky
taste” when it comes to choosing roles. She received an Academy Award for Best
Actress for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in “The Hours,” the 2002 adaptation
of Michael Cunningham’s novel of the same name but has also played in films
that fared less favorably at the box office in the meantime.
While her performances have mostly been praised by critics,
films such as “Fur,” “The Invasion” and the more recent “the Golden Compass”
and “Margot at the Wedding” did not take the box office by storm. Kidman said
though that this is her body of work and that she does not feel the need to
apologize for her options.
“Australia,”
directed by Baz Luhrmann and co-starring fellow Australian actor Hugh Jackman, tells
a love story between an English noblewoman and an Australian drover set against
World War II. Its North American release date is Nov. 26.
It was only last week that Angelina Jolie told the BBC in an
interview ahead of the release of her latest film, “Changeling,” that she
intended to “fade away” from Hollywood in the following years and focus on her
family…and one day become a grandma.
