Charlize Theron and Nicole Kidman will reportedly star in a movie together. The two Oscar-winning actresses will play a married couple. Nicole Kidman will also produce the film which is entitled The Danish Girl.
The movie is based on a 2000 best-selling novel of the same name, by David Ebershoff, which accounts the life of Danish artists Einar and Greta Wegener, a married couple, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
Kidman will play the male. Oh yeah! She will play Einar who poses as a woman for his wife Greta who is a painter. Greta will be played by Theron.
As the story goes (which is true by the way), Einar’s female-posing portrait becomes very popular in Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital city. This is a turning point in Einar’s life. The man slowly decides to become a woman and eventually undergoes a surgery to change his sex. The operation took place in 1931 and at that time shocked the whole world. The operation, in which Greta also played an important part because she convinced her husband to do it, hurt the couple’s relationship.
Nicole Kidman, who delivered a baby daughter in July, last appeared on the big screnn in 2007 in fantasy film The Golden Compass. Her latest film, Australia, will premiere in the United Kingdom on 26 December.
The Danish Girl will be produced independently and is now in pre-production. Anand Tucker (Shopgirl) will most likely direct the film, while writer Lucinda Coxon (Wild Target) will work at the adaptation.
Another thing worth mentioning: both Kidman and Theron earned their Oscars playing lesbians ("The Hours" and "Monster," respectively).
