Nick Hogan Has Been In Jail Long Enough

Hulk Hogan's teenage son Nick will be released from jail three months early thanks to his good behavior and holding on to a job behind bars, Entertainment Tonight reported. Nick Hogan was sentenced in May to eight months in Pinellas County Jail in Clearwater, Florida for reckless driving, and he will become a free man on October 21.

"That's not early, that's when he would normally be released, once you figure in good time and all that," Hogan's lawyer said. "When you calculate good time, which everybody that's there that doesn't get in trouble [is granted], they come up with a date, and we've known that date literally since the day that he went in. October 21 is the day that we expect he will be released, but that's because of good time and all that."

According to a jail official who did not want to be identified, "They automatically get credits towards early release, and if they don't do anything bad while they're here, they get to use the credits," the official told People.com.

This is not preferential treatment, it is standard procedure, but that still does not make it feel right. Nick was arrested last November on reckless-driving charges stemming from an August 26 crash. An eyewitness told police that Bollea and a pal were drag racing upwards of 100 mph when Nick’s yellow Toyota Supra slammed into a palm tree. Two hours after the crash, alcohol was detected in his bloodstream.

Nick's friend who was in his passenger seat and not wearing a seat belt, John Graziano, was seriously injured, being left with permanent brain damage.

In a statement to People, Graziano's attorney said he was not surprised to hear of Hogan’s early release.

"It's standard procedure," he told the mag. "There is no way for us to impact his release date, that's not within our control. It's a formula worked out by the sheriff."

Nick started his sentence immediately after his May 9th trial when he pleaded no contest to felony reckless driving charges. Due to his young age, Nick, who was 17 at the time, was isolated in a maximum-security cell at Pinellas County Jail. He was allowed to join the general population of the jail on his 18th birthday.

"I would like to apologize to the Grazianos and to my family for the accident," Nick said in court at the time of his sentencing. "Every single day I think about the accident and about John."

His sister Brooke told reporters recently at a celebration to honor Bowlmor Lanes' southern outpost, Strike Miami that, "Nick is getting out in 17 days. I don't know where he's going. He's grown up and will decide on his own."

Even though he'll be a free man very soon, the son of wrestling royalty has more business to complete outside the jail, including the 500 hours of community service. Also, he was placed under 5 years probation, had his license revoked for three years and was ordered to attend DUI school.
