Slide Inc., a well known social network software maker,
finalized a deal with several major media companies, which will enable the
distribution of video content on Facebook. Slide was already involved with
Facebook and also MySpace, as it delivered several very successful programs,
such as media-sharing applications Slide Shows, Top Friends, SuperPoke! and
FunWall.
The partnership includes the companies Time Warner Inc's
Warner Brothers, CBS Corp's CBS Interactive, News Corp and NBC Universal's Web
site Hulu and Comcast Corp's E! Entertainment channel. The videos featured
through the new service will be recommended to Facebook’s users based on how
often they will be forwarded by their users.
The video service is scheduled for launch tomorrow and will
be called FunSpace Channels.
"Media companies create and deliver entertainment,
social networks connect people, and Slide is the conduit between the two;
that's social entertainment," said Keith Rabois, Slide’s vice president of
strategy and business development.
The new service is designed to attract new viewers and
advertisers and Slide’s move is also directed at getting a bigger piece of the revenues
recorded by the constantly growing social networking market. The company
announced that it is planning to take the service to other platforms starting
with 2009, if it becomes popular as expected. The software maker will share with
the Web site and also the other companies involved the revenue recorded through
the advertising campaigns prepared by Facebook’s media partners.
Slide is a San Francisco-based company, founded back in 2005
by PayPal’s co-founder Max Levchin.
