New Standards for Marijuana Use in Mendocino

Give a man an inch and he will take an ell. This seems to be the case with an unconventional law that permitted Mendocino County residents to grow up to 25 plants per person for medicinal or recreational use.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Mendocino County officials changed their minds and thought that the initial measure was too attractive for those who wanted to come there and grow pot for commercial use.

Now, don’t think that they banned it. They simply adjusted it.

Tuesday, voters approved a new measure that limited residents to six plants. Measure B had 55% of the votes.

This measure repeals the more permissive one from 2000 which had caused the false impression that criminals were welcomed in Mendocino.

Now, officials want to set the record straight: six plants are enough.

There are other jurisdictions in the U.S. that allow more plants for medicinal use, reports the San Francisco Chronicle, but they have rules about how and where the plants must be planted.

Lawyers said that the initial standard allowed people to have enough pot to use in medicinal purposed and this one is too restrictive. On the other hand, many residents and authorities said that standard was abused.

State and federal law doesn’t allow recreational pot but the state gives local government to regulate the use of it.
