There has been an on-going battle between the two most popular music-based video games available today. One is Guitar Hero, brought to you by Red Octane and Activison. Its nemesis is Rock Band, a joint venture between MTV Games, Harmonix and EA Games. The latter is available for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii gaming consoles.
Although similar, there are some differences between the two games and what they offer players. Guitar Hero has just now released “Guitar Hero World Tour”, which offers the buyer a guitar-like instrument, a drum set and a microphone, while Rock Band packaged two guitars (lead and bass), drums and a microphone since its first version.
Music is, obviously, the vital part of Rock Band, and the game’s designers have quite a remarkable line-up: Red Hot Chili Peppers (“Dani California”), Blue Oyster Cult (“The Reaper”), Metallica (“Enter Sandman”), OK Go (“Here It Goes Again”), Deep Purple (“Highway Star”), Foo Fighters (“Learn to Fly”), David Bowie (“Suffragette City”), Bon Jovi (“Wanted Dead or Alive”) and The Who (“Won’t Get Fooled Again”), to name a few. Most of the music is supplied by EMI Music, Hollywood Records, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group’s Universal Music Enterprises and Warner Music Group’s Rhino Entertainment. Also, it offers seven albums available for album, namely Judas Priest's “Screaming for Vengeance”, the eponymous first album from The Cars, the Pixies' “Doolittle”, “Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?” by Megadeth, Rush's “Moving Pictures”, “Blood Sugar Sex Magik” by Red Hot Chili Peppers, and “Dr. Feelgood” by Mötley Crüe.
But the new Rock Band game will by far surpass any other, as executives managed to get the Beatles on-board. In other words, the new Rock Band game features Beatles songs exclusively, ranging from the 60s to the cult-song “Yellow Submarine.” There was some uncertainty as to whether Beatles would sign with Rock Band or Guitar Hero, but the remaining band member and their representatives finally opted for MTV’s game.
