A good thing is always followed by a bad thing. At least
this is what they say.
Filmmaker Chris Weitz, whose movie credits include “About a
Boy” and “The Golden Compass” may have taken the helm of “New Moon”, but the
profitable package consists of disturbing issues as well.
When Summit Entertainment announced that Chris Weitz would
succeed Catherine Hardwicke and direct the second production in the popular and
profitable vampire franchise, fans noticed a mind-boggling exclusion in the
press release, since Taylor Lautner, who impersonated Jacob Black in the first
film, had been apparently omitted.
Although everybody hoped for the omission to be a mere
mistake by Summit Entertainment, the studio explained that casting for the
character had not been finalized.
According to MTV News, Michael Copon (“Scorpion King 2”) is
among the actors who are being considered for the part.
The company selected Chris Weitz as the helmer of “New Moon”
after “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke failed to come to an agreement
with the film studio.
Stephenie Meyer, the author of the best-selling vampire
books on which the movies are based, posted a message on her Web site urging
fans to relax and accept the new filmmaker, explaining that the change would
not affect the quality of the pictures.
In addition, “Twilight” aficionados will not have to wait
long until the next installment of the saga is released. Summit Entertainment
spokesman Paul Pflug announced that “New Moon” would come out just one year
after the first movie. The sequel is scheduled to debut on November 20, 2009,
over the same weekend as its prequel this year.
