New Mac Mini and Netbook – a Macworld 2009 Possibility?

Apple will certainly delight us with some fresh new electro-digital goodies at the next edition of the Macworld expo, which happens to be scheduled for January. And, as usual before Apple’s famous technology shows, one can bear the agony of waiting only by constantly sniffing about for rumors about the actual stuff to be unveiled by the company. Right now, there’s plenty of hearsay on this matter.

Some of the more constant and believable whisperings are about an updated version of the Mac Mini, a netbook, or maybe even an iPhone nano. Among these, the more solid candidate seems to be the updated Mac Mini, according to Wired. Apparently, a mysterious unnamed Apple corporate employee revealed Apple’s plans to come forward with a brand new Mac Mini, but without specifying when that’s going to happen.

Anyway, it seems like forever since Apple made improvements to this profitable baby of theirs (since mid-2007, or almost 500 days ago). And it would really deserve one, as proven by its no 2 rank in the bestselling desktop computer category at Amazon.com.

And yet, this would be a little too predictable or unspectacular for a Macworld edition; Apple got us used to flashy presentations of new never-before-seen gadgets: the iPhone was shown to the world for the first time two years ago; and last year, the Macbook Air. So that’s why analyst Ezra Gottheil from Technology Business Research might just be right in predicting a new series of Apple netbooks.

This could be a smart move on Apple’s part, as the popularity of these small and cheap laptops has lately been steadily increasing. TBR also expects these netbooks to fully take advantage of the tremendously successful iTunes App store for many of their software needs.
