LG announced that its latest Blu-Ray player, which will be released this fall, will also be able to stream video content from the popular Netflix service. The announcement comes as the Korean electronics company is trying to gain more marketplace in the United States.
This way, people who already have a Netflix account and want to buy the player will be able to access Netflix's movie database, which encompasses over 12,000 titles, directly from their player, with the help of the remote control.
The new player will allow people to select movies and episodes of TV shows from Netflix's selection and load them into a list. The movies that have been selected will be ready to be played in about 30 seconds. People will also have the possibility to fast-forward and rewind the content they are watching.
Both LG and Netflix will have pretty much to gain from the partnership. On one hand, Netflix might get new subscribers as some people who want to buy the Blu-Ray player might be tempted to make an Netflix account just to be able to use the LG device at its full capabilities. On the other hand, some Netflix subscribers might turn into LG customers because a device that allows them to stream their favorite content and which gives them the possibility to watch Blu-Ray movies might just be the device they are looking for.
As far as price is concerned, there hasn't been given any substantial information, but it seems that the device will come at $400 - $450.
