Microsoft is sticking to its advertising policy that focuses on dishing Apple and its products. As expected, the latest ad from Microsoft promotes the Windows-running PCs as a better choice than the Macs produced by Apple.
However, unlike previous ads in which the PCs were presented as cheaper and also better, in this one Microsoft also referred to the aesthetics of the computers Apple makes and basically said that Macs are more about looks than about efficiency and power.
The whole add revolved around this guy called Gianpaolo who wants to buy a laptop that has everything he needs and is under $1500.
"I'm technically savvy. I know what I want," the curly-haired dude says.
He mentions portability, power and good battery life. When he’s shown a MacBook he says: "This is so sexy!"
"Macs to me are all about aesthetics more than they are the computing power. I don't want to pay for the brand, I want to pay for the computer," he adds.
In then end, Gianpaolo finds the computer he suits his needs and is under $1500. The laptop that made it was a HP Pavilion HDX 16, which can be purchased from the producer’s Web site starting with a basic configuration available for $1000, although HP's "recommended configuration" is $1400 which is still within the budged.
However, it seems that Gianpaolo forgot about portability along the way.
The final line of the ad is really a blow at Apple ads that have been mocking PCs and their users for not being cool. This Gianpaolo guy isn’t a geek at all. He’s actually cool and he ends the ad by saying:
"I'm a PC because I'm really picky."
