Activision has announced its plans to upgrade its Guitar
Hero franchise, using some of the features found on the Rock Band game. The new
Guitar Hero World Tour will offer drums, a mic and also bass support.
The game will offer a more realistic approach, using an
advanced drum set with new cymbals for players. The user will also have the opportunity
to battle each other online in what could be called the battle of the bands.
The feature will be available for teams of maximum four players.
"With the introduction of our advanced high-quality new
wireless instruments, in-depth customization options and advanced online
functionality, Guitar Hero World Tour enables music fans and gamers globally to
share in the most social and expressive music experience ever," said Dusty
Welch, head of publishing for RedOctane.
The game will offer players the chance to make their own
songs using the Guitar Hero instruments.
There are still many details left out of the company’s
announcement but some of the artists involved have been presented. The list includes
Van Halen, Sublime, Linkin Park and the Eagles.
The Guitar Hero series has helped Activision cash in over a billion
dollars and the new version, set for launch in the fall is expected to win back
some of the clients who chose Electronic Arts Inc’s Rock Band game.
The game will be available on the Wii, PS2, PlayStation 3
and Xbox 360 and the price has not yet been announced.
