Started way back in 1975, Saturday Night live is still one of America’s most popular TV shows. It’s broadcast weekly and the sketches last for a whole 90 minutes.
The regular cast consists of comedian new-comers, but it also features a live musical act and a host, usually a more famous actor or other celebrity. Many of the show’s former cast members have made it big the movie and stand-up comedy industry. Two such examples are Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider.
Staff changes aren’t a thing of novelty to the producers of Saturday Night Live. The most recent cast members to either leave or take a break from the hit program are Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. Amy Poehler is taking a break from the spotlight as she has recently given birth and has decided to turn all of her attention on her new-born baby. Tina Fey, on the other hand, is retiring from the show after a successful season where she played Alaskan Governor and former Republican Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
This Saturday, the show will feature two new women as part of their cast, namely Michaela Watkins and Abby Elliott. Watkins is an actress and has trained in the Groundlings improvisation group as a sketch performer.
Elliott has so far been a part of the Upright Citizens Brigade, another famous improvisation group. Recently, she has done voiceover work for the up-and-coming ABC animated series “The Goode Family”, the “baby” of Mike Judge. The executive producer of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, said it’s possible that he will add more members to the cast of the popular television series.
