New details began to emerge in the case of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's hacked e-mail account, as investigators are getting close to pinpointing the author of the hack.
First of all, the FBI is involved in the current search for the author of the breach, and secondly, the author himself, or at least someone claiming to be the hacker, made some comments on a blog about the deed.
Identified as “rubico” on the blog, the alleged hacker explains how easy it was for him to access Palin's e-mail account by simply answering the security questions and resetting the password. How? Sarah Palin did a poor job when setting her e-mail account, since she did not take into consideration the fact that anyone can find out the answers to those questions by doing a simple Internet search.
In the meantime, the Tennessean newspaper wrote about State Rep. Mike Kernell's claims that his 20-year-old son, David, is in fact the hacker everyone's been looking for. However, when confronted, Kernell made no confirmation of that.
The hacker found nothing of public interest in Sarah Palin's account, as he and an entire nation would have probably expected. John McCain's campaign manager released a statement earlier this week calling this a “shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of the law.”
However, security experts believe this should come as no surprise, since those “secret answers” Sarah Palin gave when setting up her account are publicly available on the web. At the end of the day, all this matter could have been avoided.
