New Bombing Attack In Sri Lanka Leaves 21 Victims

A new horrible attack took place today in Sri Lanka as the bombing of two buses during the city’s rush hour let to the killing of 21 people and the wounding of at least 47. The attack was blamed on the separatist Tamil Tiger movement.

According to the city’s officials, the detonation took place at about 7:30 a.m. in the Colombo area of Moratuwa and it is the third one in less than two weeks targeting the civilians in the area.

The rebels, identified as a terrorist group in the European Union, India and the United States seem to have no boundaries in their 25-year efforts of fighting against Sri Lanka’s government.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa issued a statement to all Sri Lankans, requesting them to "remain vigilant against the forces of terror," as quoted by the Associated Press.

The conflict between the Sri Lanka's pro-government forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam group has started 24 years ago and over this period there have been more than 70,000 people killed in the clashes. Two attempts of reaching peace were made, but after the last, which happened during the peace-talks held in Geneva a year ago and did not manage reach a firm conclusion, the fighting has intensified.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 200 civilians have died as a result of the continuous rebel bombing and it seems that there is very little that can be done in order to prevent such incidents from occurring.

The LTTE has an estimated 12,000-member land force and a 4,000-strong naval unit.
