The business of distributing movies over the Internet has boomed, as it was expected, and companies that embarked on this business are now making huge profits. It seems that there is a need for comfort, for simple things, the CD is getting replaced by the download, and certainly walking down to the nearest shop that rents movies has become obsolete.
Why walk, when you can click? Why eject the tray from your DVD player when you can simply stream? Why have multiple devices stocked up in your living room, when you can simply buy one product that can do it all?
Netflix’s business has boomed and it is not very hard to understand why. Currently, Netflix has a library of 12,000 DVDs available for instant viewing on PC or TV, most users being able to stream these titles for free. Netflix also expects to reach about 11 million subscribers, while its cooperation with Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console is a total hit.
The Xbox stands out through it recently updated software, called the Xbox Live Experience. One of the most talked about features on the Xbox Live Experience is users’ ability to directly stream movies from Netflix. This feature is only available to users that have unlimited streaming account on Netflix in order to use Xbox’s new feature.
This makes the Xbox one of those devices that can do so many things, yet it’s only one gadget. Recent data suggests that DVD sales dropped a full 9% mainly because of the uprising Internet distributing movie business.
