Supermodel Naomi Campbell, who checked into a Brazilian hospital earlier this week, had a helicopter pick her up on Friday when she was released.

"She recovered very well from her surgery," Mirtes Bogea, a spokeswoman for the Sirio Libanes Hospital, said Friday. "Doctors signed her release, and she left in the afternoon in a helicopter that someone sent to pick her up."

Brazilian gynecologist Dr. Jose Aristodemo Pinotti, who attended to Campbell, was quoted by Globo news as saying he had approved her release from the hospital but recommended she stayed in Brazil resting before resuming work.

Pinotti described the procedure performed on Campbell as a laparoscopy, in which doctors use a thin, lighted scope to view internal organs. On Tuesday, the day after the surgery, Pinotti said Campbell was "completely cured and walking in her room."

According to hospital officials, the 37-year-old model was hospitalized last Sunday, but Campbell's Los Angeles spokesman said she went in on Monday. He also said the model was there to have a small cyst surgically removed, but Pinotti was quoted by a local newspaper as denying she had a cyst, while refraining from giving more details.

"I cannot reveal what Naomi had, nor how serious her condition was, but I can say I operated on her, and she is completely cured," Pinotti said.

"When a patient asks for discretion, be it Naomi or just plain Maria, I respect their wishes," he added.

"I would like to thank everyone for their kind wishes and concern over the past week and for the fantastic service I have received at the hospital," the model said in a statement released by her rep on Friday, also denying reports that she was hosting a party to celebrate her release, saying, "I take my health very seriously, so to suggest that I would host a party following an operation is ludicrous."

Campbell, a frequent visitor to Brazil who earlier this month celebrated Carnival in the northeastern city of Salvador, reportedly became engaged to Marcus Elias, a 49-year-old Brazilian financier, after meeting him at a fashion party in Sao Paulo earlier in February.
