Nancy Reagan Not Out of the Hospital - Yet

Nancy Reagan, wife of former President Ronald Reagan, was taken to the St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica Sunday, after falling down in her Bel Air home. The 86-year-old former First Lady was supposed to spend only a night at the hospital, but remained there an additional one.

According to Reuters, Joanne Drake, Reagan’s spokeswoman said: “As a precaution, her family physician felt it best to admit her ... for overnight evaluation. She is doing well and is visiting with friends in her room.”

Despite the doctors’ decision to keep her for two nights in the hospital, Reagan had not broken her hip as feared. Her spokeswoman said in a statement Monday night: “I am pleased to report that doctors have concluded their tests, all results are good and they intend to release Mrs. Reagan from the hospital tomorrow,” as quoted by the Associated Press.

Nancy Reagan was last seen in public a month ago in Simi Valley, California at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library for the Republican debates.

The widow of Ronald Reagan was born Anne Frances Robbins on July 6, 1921 in New York. As she grew up she became an actress and took the name Nancy Davis. During the 1940s and 1950s Reagan, then known by the name of Nancy Davis, starred in films such as “Donovan’s Brain,” “Night into Morning” and “Hellcats of the Navy.”

Nancy married Ronald Reagan in 1952 and was the First Lady of the United States from 1981 until 1989. She stood by her husband in many difficult moments such as the assassination attempt in 1981, the cancer surgery in 1987 and also the years prior to his death, when the former President suffered from Alzheimer's disease.

Nancy Reagan is expected to head home on Tuesday.
