Nancy Reagan Hospitalized For Fractured Pelvis

Nancy Reagan’s spokeswoman Joanne Drake announced on Wednesday that the former First Lady had been hospitalized in order to receive treatment for fractures to her pelvis and lower spine.

Reagan broke her pelvis last week, when she accidentally fell at her home and has been in pain ever since, the spokeswoman added. Consequently, she admitted herself to a hospital that has recently been renamed the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Drake stated that Nancy Regan’s recovery would last up to eight weeks, refusing to disclose any further details on her current state or her fall that led to the fracture of her pelvis and sacrum, which is the triangular bone at the base of the spine.

Nancy Davis Reagan was born Anne Frances Robbins and she is the widow of former United States President Ronald Reagan, having made her mark during the latter’s administration by being quite an influential First Lady. Her most commonly known initiative was the „Just Say No” drug awareness campaign, aimed at preventing the use of recreational drugs.

Reagan, now 87, married Ronald Reagan on March 4, 1952, after they had dated for three years.

Between 1967 and 1975, she served as the First Lady of California, during her husband's two terms as governor.

Six years later, Ronald Reagan became the president of the United States, which rendered her the nation’s First Lady.

On June 5, 2004, her husband died in their Bel Air home. The widow remained actively involved in politics, urging president George W. Bush to support embryonic stem cell research.

This March, Nancy Reagan publicly endorsed the GOP’s presidential-nominee John McCain’s candidacy.
