Even though the Super Bowl is scheduled to kick off in Tampa, Florida, on February 1, NBC has informed that it still had approximately two minutes of commercial time left for the game, which they were offering at a discount.
The number of the half-minute ads that are still available is less than half the number of spots that were left last week, according to a statement made by NBC Universal Sports and Olympics chairman Dick Ebersol for the MediaWeek publication.
Originally, the ads were sold at $3 million each, while the later ones went for $2.8 million, which is not much pricier than the amount that Fox charged for Super Bowl XLII last year. Speaking of Fox, the network was sold out of commercial spots for its Super Bowl broadcast months before it did so back in 2008.
NBC could come to make more than $200 million in ad revenue from the game, which is a larger amount than Fox earned last year when it maxed out at only $186.3 million.
For the Super Bowl this year, the biggest advertisers are Anheuser-Busch InBev with 4.5 minutes of airtime, PepsiCo Incorporated and the Coca-Cola Company.
On February 1, the Super Bowl airs from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa between the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
