NBC decided to eliminate its own worst enemy for good. The Peacock
network will suspend the airing of two of its newest series, “My Own Worst
Enemy” and “Lipstick Jungle,” as the shows have brought nothing but low ratings.
NBC will nevertheless continue to run episodes of both
series until the current orders run out, but will not order fresh installments
when it finishes broadcasting the remaining nine episodes of the show starring
Christian Slater and the thirteen episodes of “Lipstick Jungle,” starring
Brooke Shields.
In spite of the fact that “My Own Worst Enemy” benefited
from widespread promotion, the series was not able to draw impressive
audiences. In the show, Christian Slater plays, on the one hand, Henry, an
ordinary man leading a normal life, and, on the other hand, Henry’s alter-ego,
who is a secret agent and trained assassin.
Luring less than 5 million viewers every week, the series
occupied an anemic 61st position in the Nielsen Media Research season standings
and the result seems to represent a real impediment to its continuation.
“Lipstick Jungle,” a show following the hackneyed “Sex and
the City” formula, managed to draw only 4.2 million viewers per episode this
season, according to figures by Nielsen.
Thus, the series depicting the lives of three successful
women in their 30s can’t see a life beyond the current order.
And all these lineup changes leave us wondering: Which
series is next?
