A 6-year-old Las Vegas boy, who was abruptly taken from
his home Wednesday, was found safe on a Las Vegas Sidewalk by a bus driver. The
boy, Cole Puffinburger, was the subject of a four-day search which began after
police announced he was kidnapped from his home by men posing like police
officers.
Three gunmen posing like police officers burst
into a suburban Las Vegas
home and demanded money from the boy’s family, the police said. When the boy’s
mother and her fiancé said they didn’t have the money, the intruders took the
boy, tied the couple and ransacked the house. Authorities suspect Mexican drug
dealers, saying that the kidnapping may be a message to the boy’s grandfather, Clemens
Tinnemeyer, 51, who may have stolen millions from drug dealers involved in
trafficking methamphetamine.
Tinnemeyer had been hiding for several
weeks but was arrested late Friday in Riverside.
The boy was found by a bus driver Saturday
night on a street outside a Methodist church in Las Vegas, four days after his disappearance.
Cole asked the driver if he would take him home. He appeared healthy and in “extremely
good condition,” but was taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure. He was
released to his father’s care early yesterday.
Authorities suspect the intruders were
trying to collect drug money from Cole’s grandfather. The man was to appear
before a federal magistrate today in Riverside,
Calif. Police say the man is
involved in drug trafficking.
A photo of a Mexican citizen believed to be
involved in the abduction, Jesus Gastelum, was released and broadcast
nationally. The man, who is in his mid-30s, is believed to be in Las Vegas or Southern California.
