Becoming more concerned about the way plastic surgeries affect
families, and, especially children, Miami-based surgeon Michael Salzhauer
decided to write “My Beautiful Mommy,” a book aimed at 4-to-7 year-old kids to
help them understand plastic surgeries.
“It sounds like a joke but there really is a need to address
this issue. Hundreds of thousands of women have this operation in the United States.
This is for a specific consumer at a specific time in their life that is going
to turn their household upside down for a couple of weeks,” Salzhauer tells
Reuters.
He also says he wrote the book because many of his patients
had cosmetic surgery a few years after giving birth and were worried about what
they should tell their children. “This book was written with the best of
intentions,” he says. He added that many of his patients bring their children
to plastic surgery consultations and even postoperative appointments.
“More than half the women who come in for procedures bring
their children with them and most parents go into denial about the surgery with
regard to their children.”
The book features a plastic surgeon named Dr. Michael and a
girl whose mother gets a tummy tuck, a nose job and breast implants. “You see,
as I got older, my body stretched and I couldn’t fit into my clothes anymore.
Dr. Michael is going to help fix that and make me feel better,” the mom
explains her daughter before the surgery.
The book will be released to the public on April 28, 2008.
