“Cool” now has a new name, and that name is Courtney Holt. The cool factor is his new job, of course, as Holt now holds the position of president of MySpace Music. Rumor has it that Holt is indeed very cool and extremely talented.
Before occupying this position with MySpace, Holt was the Executive Vice President of Digital Music for the MTV Networks Music and Logo Group. He had the task to oversee initiatives for the company’s digital music group. Prior to his career with MTV, Holt worked as Senior Vice President of New Media, Creative and Strategic Marketing at Interscope Geffen A&M.

Holt used MySpace to bring out albums from bands such as Weezer, Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Black Eyed Peas and Audioslave. MySpace’s co-founder, Chris DeWolfe, stated that Holt brought both extensive music knowledge and connection with bands. Holt’s music knowledge is valuable because Holt has had extended contact with music both from a marketing perspective and from a music programming perspective. He also has good relationships with bands and musicians, major and independent labels, but also technical knowledge. DeWolfe also said that Holt has a unique, eclectic style, which is noticeable from his clothes to his glasses.

It’s possible that MySpace will increase in popularity, although it is currently one of the most popular social networking websites available. Its new policy, of inducting music into the website, is bound to be a very popular addition which will attract hoards of new customers. Holt is a great addition for the MySpace team, especially since he will be running MySpace Music.
