“The Spirit” is a police-hero film adaptation based on the comic book supplement with the same name, which was created by Will Eisner. The producers of the movie, Batfilm, OddLot and Lionsgate are ready to release a movie directed and written by Frank Miller. Starring Gabriel Macht and Samuel L. Jackson, “The Sprit” was announced to be released on Christmas Day.

Gabriel Macht plays the role of The Spirit and he is an inexperienced cop who returns from the dead in order to fight the crimes from Central City. Yet, the character fights the bad guys from the shadows and Macht had received the role only in August 2007, after the producers had been sure that he was the one for it.

The Octopus is interpreted by Samuel L. Jackson and represents a villain who plans to destroy all Central City and kill anyone that steps foot around him. Jackson received the role back in May 2007 and was the producers’ first choice. Together with Miller and the costume designers, Jackson tried to design costumes as to fit the scenery.

Yet, the controversial character of Ebony White won’t appear in the movie and the main character will be involved in a love triangle together with Sand Saref and Ellen Dolan.

OddLot Entertainment required the right to the movie in July 2004 and the company producers, Gigi Pritzker and Deborah Del Pete, started the collaboration with Batfilm Productions as to adapt the story of the comic book. Two years later, Frank Miller was decided to be the producer of “The Spirit” and he announced that the movie “will be much scarier than people expect.”
