Movie Review: “Hotel for Dogs”

“Hotel for Dogs” draws the funniest and smartest comedy adventure, starring Emma Roberts, Jake T. Austin, Kyla Pratt and Don Cheadle. The movie is the adaptation of Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name, released in 1971, which describes the lives of two orphans who decide to take street dogs to an empty hotel.

Directed by Thor Freudenthal, the movie began to be shot in November 2007 and it will be released on January 16, 2009 in the United States. The writers who worked at the script by adapting the book for the movie were Jeff Lowell, Bob Schooley and Mark McCorkle.

Andi, a 16-year-old girl interpreted by Emma Roberts, together with her younger brother Bruce, played by Jake Austin, are taken in by a foster home, where they aren’t allowed to have any pets. The problems begin when the two have to find a home for their dog, Friday.

So Andi and Bruce find an abandoned hotel and begin to work on it and transform it into the best home for Friday and the other streets dogs. After they finish building the best shelter for the furry pets they realize that this could be their home too. But what about the police, who want to know who let all the dogs inside the abandoned hotel?

“Hotel for Dogs” is the first Nickelodeon cable television’s movie to be released by DreamWorks Pictures and not Paramount Pictures. With the score composed by John Debney and having Naked Brother Band singing “Run” for the commercial, the movie outlines both the funny happenings and also the cutest love to be shared, the one between two children and many dogs.
