Monday, a private funeral service was held in memory of Jennifer
Hudson’s murdered mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew at the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago’s
South Side, following a public memorial on Sunday, which was attended by hundreds
of friends and fans of the Oscar-winning actress.
As the three hearses led by a school bus arrived at the
church, police decided to shut down traffic on side streets, in order to
prevent the media from hindering the mourners, as well as to offer the latter a
private entrance to the funeral service.
On Friday, October 24, Darnell Hudson Donerson, aged 57 and Jason
S. Hudson, 29, Jennifer Hudson’s mother and brother, respectively, were found
dead at the mother’s home on the South Side of Chicago. Ms. Hudson’s body was
discovered on the living room floor, while her son’s body was reported to have
been found in the bedroom by a relative of the two who also was the one who called
the police to the scene. At that time, authorities stated that the double
shooting had been the dreadful result of a domestic fight, since there had been
no sings of forced entry.
That same day, Julian King, Hudson’s nephew, was reported
missing. One week ago, the
boy’s body was found in the West Side neighbourhood inside an SUV.
Until now, the police have not arrested anyone in connection
with the three murders, but they are currently holding William Balfour, the
husband of Hudson’s sister Julia in
custody, as a person of interest in the case.
Moreover, last Friday, a 45-caliber gun that was identified
as the murder weapon in the killings was found not far from where King’s dead
body was discovered.
