Motorola sold Good Technology to e-mail provider Visto.
The two companies released a joint statement on Monday announcing that they reached an agreement under which Visto will acquire Motorola's e-mail unit, Good Technology.
The statement did not mention any of the terms of the agreement. It only said the transaction will most likely be finalized by the end of the month. Good Technology is specialized in offering wireless messaging, mobile VPN data access, device management and handheld security for enterprise customers worldwide.
In the joint statement, the companies underlined that the acquisition positions Visto as a global leader in the delivery of “a full range of secure, mobile messaging solutions for enterprises through mobile operators and OEM handset manufacturers."
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Good Technology was sold for far less than the approximately $500 million Motorola paid for it two years ago. Motorola’s move of acquiring Good Technology back in 2007 and of creating the Motorola Good Technology Group was made to help the Schaumburg, Illinois-based company compete against RIM’s BlackBerry and other messaging devices.
On the other hand, Visto Corp. said it wants to buy Good Technology to expand its client base. The Redwood Shores, California-based company offers mobile push and synchronization platform for service providers. Visto has relationships with mobile operators all over Europe, North America, and Asia.
BY acquiring Good Technology, Visto will also provide its customers with a broader range of solutions and best-in-class secure mobile offerings.
As a result of this transaction, Visto will now provide customers in over 100 countries an open, robust and secure mobile experience for enterprise customers, on over 400 different mobile devices," said Visto’s CEO Brian Bogosian, according to RTTNews.com.
