Randy Moss can’t even sit back
and relax after the history-making season with the Patriots, as Rachelle
Washington, a woman he’s known for 11 years, claims the NFL star assaulted her
11 days ago and then denied her medical attention. A temporary restraining
order has been issued against Moss on Monday by the Broward County Court.
Not only did the Patriots wide
receiver denied the allegations, but his lawyer also claimed that the legal
representative of Ms. Washington threatened to go public with the story unless
Moss paid half a million dollars in exchange for her silence. Neither Washington,
nor her lawyer, were available for comments.
Moss, 30, who has been stalked
by journalists’ questions ever since news on the incident broke out, said he
was mad about the situation, which could only interfere with his Sunday’s AFC
Championship Game against the Chargers, but he is not able to provide details
on the incident while facing a possible lawsuit.
The Patriots receiver also
wanted to make something clear: “I my entire life of living, 30 years, I have
never put my hand on one woman, physically, or in an angry manner.” Washington
however came to contradict such statements, by obtaining a restraining order
against him. According to the court records, Moss “committed a battery … causing
serious injury.”
No criminal charges have been
filed yet, as the two wait for the January 28 hearing in Fort Lauderdale. Despite
his refusals to provide details on the January 6 incident, Moss also said to
the reporters gathered at the Gillette Stadium: “It’s unfair to athletes if a
person makes a false claim … This lady, by no means, is hurt. I didn’t hurt her
… It was an accident.”
Moss admitted to announcing his
coach of the incident last Friday, after assuming it will soon break with the
media. Belichick was not asked to comment on the situation, but Moss said he was
advised to focus on playing football, and handle the matter after the season is
over.
