Morgan Freeman’s ‘Friend’ Sues Him Over Car Crash

Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman is facing a lawsuit filed against him by his female passenger in last August’s car crash outside of Memphis in Mississippi.

Morgan Freeman and a female companion later identified as Demaris Meyer were driving in her 1997 Nissan Maxima when Freeman lost control of the wheel and ran off the right of Highway 32 as they were heading east. The car flipped over several times before resting right-side up.

The lawsuit, which accuses Freeman of driving negligently, disobeying the speed limit and drinking alcohol before the crash, was announced during a press conference held by Meyer and her lawyer, Gloria Allred, who has represented everyone from Amber Frey to Paula Jones.

In her lawsuit filed on February 25 in Mississippi Federal Court, Meyer is suing for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages and permanent disability due to short-term memory loss stemming from the accident which landed them both in the hospital.

Freeman’s accident generated concern from fans as well as vivid curiosity from the general public, when it was learned that the 71-year-old “Dark Knight” actor was in the car with a 48-year-old woman. A week after the crash, Freeman and his wife announced their divorce.

Everyone assumed Freeman and Meyer were romantically involved, but she strongly denied the assumptions claiming she had met the actor the nigh of the car crash at a dinner party.

“I have been labeled as the other woman and have been accused of having caused the breakup of Mr. Freeman's marriage,” Meyer said. “Nothing could be further from the truth. I had hoped and prayed that Mr. Freeman or his representatives would have set the record straight and cleared my name, but they have not done so and that is why I have chosen to come forward to tell the truth about our relationship.”

Morgan Freeman's attorney Bill Luckett said the actor is aware of the lawsuit filed against him Wednesday.
