The Oscar-winner actor Morgan Freeman was discharged from the Tennessee hospital, where he was treated for broken bones and other injuries sustained in a weekend car crash in Mississippi.
The accident took place 30 miles away from where he owns a house, in Charleston, Mississippi. He was driving on a rural road in Tallahatchie County when the car flipped several times. The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to take the two passangers out of the car.
Freeman, 71, was in the car with Demaris Meyer, 48, who was also injured in the crash.
Morgan Freeman had a broken arm, a broken elbow and quite severe shoulder damage, spokeswoman Donna Lee stated on Monday. "He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage. He says he'll be ok and is looking forward to a full recovery," Lee said at the time.
No drugs or alcohol are thought to be involved in the accident and both Freeman and the female passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams stated on Monday.
Despite initial reports that Freeman might have fallen asleep at the wheel, it is now being speculated that heavy rain caused the accident.
In other news, Bill Luckett, Morgan Freeman’s business partner and lawyer, said Freeman and his wife of 24 years are getting a divorce. Freeman's wife is Myrna Colley-Lee. Freeman and Colley-Lee married in 1984. The actor was previously married to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw from 1967 to 1979. Two of his four children are together with his first wife.
Freeman won an Oscar in 2005 for his supporting role in "Million Dollar Baby" and a Golden Globe Award for best actor for the 1989 film "Driving Miss Daisy."
