The global warming issue represents
quite an important problem that the humankind should quickly solve. Once the
global warming process has started only brilliant and responsible measures
could be taken for doing something about it. When talking about global warming
it is not only about the polar bears and all those white-coated nice animals
that suffer more and more because of their habitats’ disappearing, but it is
also and mainly about us, the humans!
So, the global warming problem is
still in the spotlight and it will probably be for many years from now on.
Hopefully, the important powerful people and institutions will find a way to
stop global warming and to help the Earth and all its inhabitants.
The global warming and how to
find a solution against this dangerous process and the changes it bring along
have been the major topics of this week’s United States’ Conference of Mayors’
Climate Protection Summit. More than 100 mayors from all across the Untied
States have met in Seattle,
Washington, and have discussed how
their cities can play a (positive!) role in fighting the global warming. The
mayors have compared ways of slashing the carbon emissions while also creating
jobs and boosting urban economies.
The United States Conference of
Mayors, which has represented the organizer of the meeting, has also announced
that more than 710 mayors, including the participants, had pledged to reduce
the local toxic carbon emissions by 7 percent below their 1990 levels, which
comes in line with the international Kyoto
treaty that the Bush administration had rejected at the time. Furthermore, the
former Vice President and Nobel Laureate Al Gore has also addressed to the
mayors via a satellite link-up and talked about their leading role in this
fight.
Hopefully this meeting, Al Gore’s
work and other similar activities will eventually save our …world!
