Montgomery: Another Water Pipe Breaks

Even though Monday evening, things returned to normal after a pipe broke and cut off water service to a large area in Montgomery County, Tuesday morning, another water pipe broke in the 4600 block of Overbrook Road in Bethesda, reported NBC 4.com.

About 57 customers from the area were affected.

Officials said that the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission was trying to repair the water pipe.

The Monday water main break was about 48 inches and has caused restaurants, residents and businesses from that area many disadvantages. Day camps and swimming pools were also closed and residents from northern and central Montgomery remained without water or normal water pressure almost all day long. Even when some water restrictions were over and service returned to normal, people were advised to boil the water which they intended to drink.

Monday evening all restrictions, even those imposed to the use of water to fill swimming pools, were removed and officials at the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said that things could return to normal, reported the Washington Post.

Apparently about 100 million gallons of water found their way into Rock Creek and, according to Jim Nuestadt, a spokesman for the commission, the effects were felt “all over Montgomery County.”

Although the water pressure dropped Sunday night, around 9 p.m, the water main break was pointed out Monday morning. The break caused smaller pipes to break and the traffic was disrupted Monday morning while crews were trying to fix the pipes.
