NBC will start to air new episodes of the cable series
"Monk" and "Psych," from March 2, as the strike of the
writers appears to have no ending.
Both shows will run first on Friday on USA Network, NBC’s
corporate sibling, from January 11 with six new episodes.
Afterwards, those episodes will run on NBC Saturdays from
8-10 p.m. NBC will also have access to older episodes of the series, Reuters
informs.
Ben Silverman, co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and
Universal Media Studios, said in a statement: "These two tremendously
popular USA
series are a great fit with NBC's current programming strategy and brand. This
is another example of how the NBC Universal family is finding terrific
synergies as we share our creative assets," United Press International
reports.
"Law & Order: Criminal Intent” will also be brought
back by the network. Because of its poor ratings, the series was aired on USA. “Quarterlief”,
the Web series will also be aired on NBC.
Silverman said that the airing of “Monk” and “Psych” were
not triggered by the strike.
He said that these moves would have been done anyway. “The
strike is pointing a flashlight on it,” Silverman added.
NBC also wanted a piece of USA’s series “Burn Notice,” but
it would be harder to acquire it as the show is production of Fox TV Studios,
while the other shows are produced by the network.
NBC also thought of acquiring some foreign series.
Co-Chairman Marc Graboff said about the moves on “Monk” and
“Psych” that is a great opportunity to air the two cable hits.
He said: "It's a win-win situation -- the shows, both
produced by our own Universal Media Studios, receive additional exposure while
providing great programming for NBC."
