A Stanford mother was arrested Monday after 16-month-old child
tested positive for cocaine.
Marshal Daniels, 29 was accused of leaving her child by
herself. The baby’s grandmother went to check on her daughter, but she found
her granddaughter alone. She immediately contacted Stanford, Fla.,
police. and told that when she went to check on her daughter and granddaughter
around 6 Saturday evening, her daughter was no where to be found.
The baby had open sores all over her body. The grandmother immediately
took the baby to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, as she was digging at her
skin in an attempt to scratch them. While treating the baby for her sores, the
doctors discovered she tested positive for cocaine, hospital’s officials said, MyFoxOrlando
reported. Cocaine is a dangerous drug for adults and can be deadly in children.
“It’s extremely dangerous. In children, it can cause
seizures, fast heart rate, even cardiac arrest, even death,” local WESH 2 News
medical reporter Dr. Todd Husty said.
Police arrested Daniels and charged her with child abuse.
She is currently being held at the Seminole
County jail on $7000
bond. Police said Daniels was not at her first drug-related arrest. She had
been arrested for cocaine twice in the past.
Police said they have already contacted the Department of
Children and Families.
