Hungry or not, an Illinois man stole a doughnut delivery van
and crossed the state lines leaving no other option to Illinois police than to
chase and arrest him.
The van was owned by Donut Delite of Moline, Ill. and was
stolen early Thursday, while the driver was making deliveries at Trinity Medical
Center in Rock Island. The driver had left the engine
of the van running and a man jumped in and headed for Iowa,
just over the Mississippi River, the Associated
Press reports. When he could not find the van, the driver called police who
issued an all points bulletin.
The van was spotted later in the morning by a Benton County,
Iowa, sheriff’s deputy who alarmed other eight officers and together began to
chase the man. Authorities finally cornered the van in Toledo
and arrested the driver, 46-year-old Frank Alvarado, of Moline, Ill.
The man is charged with theft, eluding and numerous traffic
violence and is held on $15,000 bond. He was also assigned a public defender,
whose name wasn’t immediately available, a jail official said, according to the
same source.
The officers taking part in the chase were rewarded with the
purloined goodies reinforcing this way the stereotype of cops loving their
doughnuts.
