The GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona was not only about touch-screen displays, it was also about being eco, as proven by the announcements from Samsung, LG and ZTE. The Asian manufacturers seemed to be the most enthusiastic about powering cell phones with direct sun light, and there are three models to choose from.
Of course, the fairest of them all is Samsung’s Blue Earth, a device that combines good looks (it’s really shiny and blue), with energy-saving capabilities (the solar panels on its back can produce enough electronic power to support phone calls anytime, anywhere, and the best part is you don’t have to worry about finding an energy source to power the phone other than sun light).
The phone comes with a full touch-screen interface, energy-saving capabilities, and it even calculates how much CO2 emissions have been reduced by taking a walk instead of a bus, as well as the number of trees that have been saved.
LG Electronics also introduced its solar-powered handset during the Barcelona GSMA World Mobile Congress, which also includes a solar panel embedded on the phone’s battery cover. According to the company, this initiative proves its commitment to creating a healthier and cleaner environment for everyone.
Last but not least, ZTE introduced its own version of an eco-friendly phone model. It may not look as impressive as the Samsung Blue Earth, but it is worth mentioning since we’ve reached this chapter. Unfortunately, the phone producer is yet to unveil all the goodies this phone can do, except for its solar panels.
