All’s well when it ends well.
A couple who went hiking in the Grand
Canyon got lost and was found safe and sound after about 5 days of
search.
According to The Associated Press, Alan Humphrey, 39, and
his wife, Iris Faraklas, 35, from Utah were
reported missing in the Grand Canyon.
Maureen Oltrogge, the park spokeswoman said that a rescue
helicopter found them Wednesday, about 25 miles west of Grand Canyon Village
on the South Rim.
He said that they weren’t hurt and their health condition
was good. They managed to stay together and protect one another. They didn’t
take the medicine offered by the rescuers. The fact that they were found was enough to make them feel
better.
Apparently the couple was on a one week vacation along the Royal Arch Route at
the Grand Canyon when they took the wrong way
and got lost. They began the trip on May 17 and were supposed to return on
Friday.
They were very lucky because they had previous experience in
hiking and also possessed good route-finding skills.
According to the Deseret News, Bil Vandergraf, the search
crew commander, said that they survived by drinking water from the park and by eating
less so that their food would last more.
