Two teenagers face life in jail, without parole, as they
were charged Tuesday with the killing of a woman and her son.
According to The Associated Press, the woman was stabbed and
cut about 100 times and her son had a television thrown over his head.
Prosecutors said that Stafon Edward Thompson, 17, and Brian Lee Flowers, 16,
both of Minneapolis
were responsible for the death of Katricia Daniels, 36, and her 10-year-old son
Robert Shepard.
They were charged with four counts of first degree murder.
Apparently the two teens blamed each other: Flowers said that
Thompson killed Daniels because he wanted her car and he also killed Daniels'
son with the TV set. Thompson said that Flowers killed Daniels because he
wanted money and he wanted Daniel’s son dead because he was a witness.
Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said that the only
thing stolen was Daniel’s mobile.
“We don't know why this murder was committed and we may
never know why. The level of violence associated with this crime is difficult
to comprehend and difficult to imagine,” said Freeman, according to The
Associated Press.
Last Thursday, Joseph Williams, Daniels’ boyfriend, found
Daniels and her son dead in their home. His 1-year-old daughter was not
injured. Apparently the suspects and the victims knew each other, as
they were friends with Daniels’ son from Chicago.
A neighbor said that they used to call her “Mom,” reported KARE.
Authorities found two knives and a golf club in Daniels’
house and another knife in a garbage can. They arrested the two teenagers on
Friday. The family and whole neighborhood were in shock and couldn’t
believe that this could have happened. About 200 people gathered Monday night
to remember the victims, reported KARE.
Williams was very affected, but managed to thank the crowd
and the police for their work.
