Country singer Mindy McCready has reportedly entered rehab
after visiting an emergency room in Tennessee last week, apparently “at the end
of her rope” after a series of emotionally-taxing events.
A representative for country singer Mindy McCready confirmed
to People.com that the 32-year-old entered rehab, but did not disclose the
reasons for this. The rep likewise confirmed that McCready received “emergency
care at Vanderbilt
University Medical
Center.”
“Other issues made it prudent for her to seek longer-term
and broader-based treatment, the rep added, commenting that, “to her credit,”
she entered an extended-care facility “where she will receive the care needed.”
The Nashville
hospital also confirms the Mindy McCready was admitted July 16.
It has been a troublesome few years for the country singer, with events
succeeding each other rapidly over the past few months.
In April, she admitted she had a long-term relationship with
Yankee star pitcher Roger Clemens but this came in no happy context, as she was
pulled into the athlete’s federal perjury investigation.
In 2004, Mindy McCready was arrested in Tennessee for using a fake prescription to
buy painkillers and she was sentenced to three years probation and community
service. In 2005, she was hospitalized after an apparent suicide attempt. She
had been in an abusive relationship with Billy McKnight, father of her
2-year-old son Zander.
She is currently in a custody feud with her ex over little Zander.
In 2007, she was sentenced to jail time for violating
probation on the 2004 drug arrest. She was arrested again last month for
violating the terms of her probation set in September 2007.
A source told the New York Daily news that the singer is “at
the end of her rope” and that she had been making plans to appear on celebrity
therapist Dr. Phil McGraw’s show “Dr. Phil.”
A spokesperson for the show, which is currently on summer
break, told the Daily News that “there are no plans at this time to have her
on.”
