Troubled country singer Mindy McCready was hospitalized Wednesday morning in a Nashville hospital after what appeared to be a suicide attempt, according to police.
Kris Mumford, a Nashville Police Department spokeswoman, told the New York Daily News police received a “10-63,” a suicidal person call, and found country singer Mindy McCready at the respective address.
The 33-year-old was transported to a Nashville-area hospital, where she was treated for wounds to her wrists, Mumford said. What seems to have saved McCreadys’ life is a telephone call she made to the mother of her roommate, who was concerned hearing the singer.
The Associated Press has a somewhat different version, reporting that it was McCready’s brother who discovered her with bloodied wrists and pills ingested, “very intoxicated” after a night out.
A hospital spokesperson has told the news agency that the singer is now in stable condition. Her attorney would not provide further details about the situation.
Mindy McCready has had a troubled several years. In October of this year, she served a 30-day jail sentence for violating probation on a 2004 drug charge. Prior to her time behind bars, the singer entered a rehab facility for undisclosed reasons in July.
At the time, she issued a statement confessing she was working hard to leave this unpleasant situation behind her and focus on what she likes most to do: sing, write songs, and entertain.
She also thanked fans for their constant support and expressed her ardent wish to regain custody of her “precious” son, 2-year-old Zander.
The singer, who had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with “Guys Do It All the Time,” has had previous suicide attempts. Last year was difficult also in that she confirmed she had a long-standing affair with former Yankee star Roger Clemens.
