A residential neighborhood from San Diego was struck by tragedy as a military jet lost power to its engines and crashed into one of the houses, killing three of its residents. The F/A-18D Hornet crashed into the house of Dong Yun Yoon and his wife, Young M. Yoon.
At the time of the accident the husband was away, and unfortunately his wife and his two daughters, Grace, 15 months, and Rachel, 2 months, were killed in the incident. According to the people living there, military planes often fly at low altitude over their neighborhood, the people being quite used to them and actually enjoying the show. Some people declared that they would even climb up on the roof of their houses in order to wave to the pilots.
Unfortunately, this terrible tragedy will most probably change their perspective on the flying jets over the houses. Special trained dogs are still looking for the lifeless body of the second daughter and if this doesn’t work out, fire fighters will search by hand through the debris.
This is the first time an F/A-18D Hornet crashes and the only information available are that the plane lost power in one of its engines and while it was heading to the nearest landing point the second engine also died causing the pilot to lose control and catapult out of the plane. The pilot is suffering from minor injuries as he landed in a tree after using the emergency procedure for these kind of situations.
The case will be further investigated in order to point exactly what caused the problems to the engines and discover if the accident is based on human flaw or on technical errors.
