Teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus and dad Billy Ray Cyrus have been announced as the hosts of the 2008 CMT Music Awards, where they will also perform along with the likes of Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.

This year’s CMT Music Awards take place on April 14 at Belmont University’s Curb Event Center in Nashville, TN., and dad-and-daughter duo Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus have taken it upon themselves to host the event.

“Miley and I are so excited to be hosting the CMT Music Awards,” Cyrus said Tuesday in a statement. “We know it will be a fun-filled night with a lot of great music performances.”

Among the performances Papa Cyrus is looking forward to are those from Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Toby Keith. The ceremony will air live on CMT. Additional performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Miley Cyrus and her country singer dad currently star in the hit TV show “Hannah Montana,” where Miley portrays a high school student named Miley Stewart, who secretly turns into pop singer Hannah Montana at night. Billy Ray Cyrus portrays her on-screen dad.

The series debuted on the Disney Channel in March 2006 and spawned a huge 2007-08 tour, “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Tour,” and a 3D movie whose initial limited release received an extension due to its massive box office success.

Papa Cyrus was a star in his own right long before Miley was out of her diapers. He scored a great chart success with the 1992 hit “Achy Breaky Heart.” He has also acted before, such as in television series “Doc,” from 2001 to 2004.

CMT’s seventh annual awards show honors country music’s elite for the year’s most outstanding music videos and performances and is unique in that it gives the awards based on fan votes.

Both Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus are scheduled to begin production in Nashville this spring on “The Hannah Montana Movie” to be followed by the taping of the third season of the “Hannah Montana” TV series.
