Pop phenomenon Miley Cyrus and her country singer dad Billy Ray Cyrus will take the stage tonight in Nashville, Tenn. as hosts of the 2008 CMT Music Awards, where they will also perform.
Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus, real life daughter and father, seem inseparable. They both star in the massively successful Disney Channel Original Series, “Hannah Montana,” as on-screen daughter and father.
The two singers also have a hit song on their hands right now, “Ready, Set, Don’t Go,” dad Billy Ray’s ode to 15-year-old Miley which, coincidentally, is nominated in the tearjerker video of the year category for the 2008 CMT Music Awards -coincidentally hosted by the two.
The 2008 CMT Music Awards will be televised tonight on Country Music Television from Belmont University’s Curb Event Center. It is the only fan-voted awards show in country music and consists of 13 categories. The tearjerker category is new and marks Billy Ray’s first CMT Music Award nomination.
Other categories include best video of the year, best video by a male artist, a female artist, a duo and a group, respectively, as well as best supporting character whose guest appearance enhances the video concept and best video most likely to stir emotion, whether tears of joy or sadness.
Also performing tonight will be Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, LeAnn Rimes, Keith Urban, Brooks & Dunn, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson and Taylor Swift.
Presenters at the event include Jewel, Josh Turner, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, comedian Rodney Carrington, Sara Evans, Taylor Swift, the Eagles’ Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit and actor Tim Daly.
Once tonight’s CMT Music Awards end, both Miley and Billy Cyrus will return to writing material for their next studio albums. They will also shortly begin production in Nashville on “The Hannah Montana Movie,” to be followed by the taping of the third season of the “Hannah Montana” TV series.
