Young Miley Cyrus is growing up and starting to take on new challenges career-wise, including a new Disney movie, yet untitled, but "tailor-made" for the teen queen by "The Notebook" filmmaker Nicholas Sparks.
It's not just her private life making headlines these days, her career is taking interesting turns as well, and according to Variety, the 15-year-old star of "Hannah Montana" is set to play a role being written especially for her.
Author Nicholas Sparks, whose novel "A Walk to Remember" helped pop star Mandy Moore make the transition into "serious acting," is simultaneously writing the novel and the screenplay for the project, after Miley reportedly told Disney execs that she would like to get involved in a similar project. The novel, which is expected to focus on family and romance, is due out next fall.
Sparks revealed to Daily Variety that his first priority is to generate a novel that stands up with his reading audience.
"This is similar to the way it’s gone with movies based on my novels; it’s just out of order," Sparks said. "Certain opportunities garner your interest, and this was one of those."
Cyrus and her family "were very familiar with the work I've done in the past. That played a role in this project coming together," Sparks told Variety. Miley will also have her mother Tish working closely with her on the movie as she is set to serve as the executive producer.
Asked about the future of her Disney hit "Hannah Montana," which practically launched her career, Miley said in July: "We're thinking this is our last season. I just think we did a lot of episodes," despite an earlier announcement from the Mickey Mouse execs who said that the show had been renewed for a third season.
Still, Cyrus insisted in an interview that she's been working on the show longer than most people realize. She was 11 when it all began. She turns 16 in November.
"I just think we did a lot of episodes," she said. "We basically did two seasons in one last year. Usually people would do one season that would be, like, 16 episodes, and we did almost 30 episodes! . . . It seems like it's been on, like, longer."
But despite Miley's hints that she's considering leaving the show, Disney isn't ready to give up the huge profit-maker.
"Miley said it best when she said she's delighted to be part of the Disney family," a Disney rep said at the time, while production for the third season already started on August 4. Miley has yet another movie project in line, the Hannah Montana feature film which his the theaters in spring 2009.
Already a solo music sensation and TV star, Miley has a major box office success with "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour," which took in $65 million earlier this spring.
