Disney star Miley Cyrus says she is such a big fan of HBO series
“Sex and the City” that she would “love to do a younger, cleaner version” of
the show.
Teen pop sensation Miley Cyrus talked to TV Guide for its
new issue and continued a bit of the more controversial aspect of her
discussion with Vanity Fair, a couple of months ago, that is, the part
concerning HBO series “Sex and the City.”
During her Vanity Fair photo shoot, which turned out to be
more controversial than anyone had expected, Miley Cyrus said the show starring
Sarah Jessica Parker was her favorite. She later explained that she only
watched the cleaned up TBS version.
The 15-year-old also revealed to TV Guide that she wears a purity
ring, as do wholesome poster children the Jonas Brothers, as a symbol for her commitment
to remain a virgin until marriage.
“I like to think of myself as the girl that no one can get,
that no one can keep in their hand,” she explained. “Even at my age, a lot of
girls are starting to fall and I think if [abstaining] is a commitment girls
make, that’s great.”
Her own sweet girl image stood to suffer in April, when she
posed for a Vanity Fair photo shoot and one photograph in particular garnered
general attention. In it, Miley Cyrus showed her bare back and covered herself
only with a satin sheet, appearing to be topless.
She apologized profusely at the time, once it became clear
that the public perception was that this was no acceptable pose for a teenager
who is and aspires to be role model to millions of children.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz released a statement at the
time, saying, “I’m sorry that my portrait of Miley has been misinterpreted. The
photograph is a simple, classic portrait, shot with very little makeup, and I
think it is very beautiful.”
The Disney star told Billboard last month the controversy “still hurts”
but that she strives to focus on more positive things. “I don’t dwell on the
negativity,” she said. “I want to be a positive role model, so we just try to
keep [that stuff] as much not talked about as possible.”
Regardless of controversy, Miley Cyrus continues her career
as any professional would. Her new album “Breakout,” sung by her and not alter
ego Hannah Montana, hits stores Tuesday, July 22. Later this month, on July 26,
her 3-D film, “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert”
will make its television debut on the Disney Channel. Her busy schedule continues
with hosting duties at the Teen Choice 2008 on Aug. 4.
