There is a saying about biting the hand that feeds you… and
Miley Cyrus will do no such thing it appears, as both she and Disney Channel
have denied recent rumors that the 15-year-old is trying hard to leave the
show.
Miley Cyrus has become one of the world’s most famous teens
as a result of her starring role in Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” show,
about an average high school girl, Miley Stewart, who goes about her sweet ways
during the day but lives a secret double identity as pop sensation Hannah
Montana.
Miley Ray Cyrus, who is actually born Destiny Hope Cyrus but
legally changed her name last year, has thrilled children and tweens across
North America as an actress and also as a singer, since she performs in
character as Hannah Montana for albums and concerts.
Rumors brewed over the weekend that Miley has actually had
enough of her blonde-haired alter ego and that she wished to leave the show
earlier. Celebrity gossip site TMZ reported, based on trusty “spies” on the set
of the series, that Miley and her dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus and
fellow cast member (he portrays Miley Stewart’s dad on the show), had been
making efforts to be fired.
The two were reported to cause strain among crew and cast by
arriving “ridiculously” late on set and by telling people they wanted to leave.
Monday however, both Miley Cyrus and Disney Channel made
statements to disperse such rumors.
Patti McTeague, a Disney spokesperson for “Hannah Montana,” told
Reuters that reports of such discontentment on the set were “absolutely not
true, pure gossip.” TMZ had reported that Miley and “Hannah Montana” co-star Emily
Osment were no longer on good terms and could hardly film their scenes
together.
Miley Cyrus herself told People magazine that she is “fully
committed” to the show, which she appreciates as the project that has given her
“this amazing opportunity to reach out to so many people.”
She further said the cast is “amazing” and “supportive.”
McTeague added that the 15-year-old star and the rest of the
show’s team have been in production for a third season and that a fourth one
may follow.
