Mike Myers has joined the cast of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglorious
Bastards,” Variety reports.
Myers is the latest actor to be recruited by Tarantino following Brad Pitt, Eli
Roth, and B.J. Novak. British actor Simon Pegg ("Hot Fuzz") may also
join the cast, as well as David Krumholtz (CBS' "Numbers") and
Nastassja Kinski for the part of a German actress.
This is a film that at one time included rumored casting
such as Adam Sandler, Eddie Murphy, Paul Walker and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Variety reported that Myers will play a British General who
helps come up with a plan to exterminate the Nazi leaders. Myers was most
recently seen in the big-screen comedy "The Love Guru," but he gained
his worldwide recognition thanks to “Austin Powers.”
"Inglorious Bastards" is Quentin Tarantino’s next
movie, and it is scheduled to start shooting in Germany this October. The film
borrows its name from Enzo Castellari's 1970s war film and it like a credit for
the ones who inspired him.
Myers proved his abilities to play a more dramatic character
in the Irish drama film "Pete's Meteo" which came out in 1998 and was
written and directed by Joe O'Byrne.
Tarantino's "Inglorious Bastards" is produced by
Universal and Weinstein Co.
Its production will begin October 13 and its premiere will
probably be at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2009.
This is he director's sixth major feature. Tarantino's other
film credits include "Reservoir Dogs," "Pulp Fiction" and
"Kill Bill."
The filmmaker completed the “Inglorious Bastards” screenplay
last week after several years of writing.
