The annual Razzie Awards announced its nominees earlier today, with Mike Myers’ The Guru taking the biggest fall with seven nominations, including worst picture, director and screenplay. The comedian is accompanied by Paris Hilton, with three nominations, for her roles in Repo: The Genetic Opera and also for the flawed love story The Hottie and The Nottie.
The event presents the year’s worst movies and actors, and the list for 2008 includes many big Hollywood stars. To start off the list, Al Pacino is nominated for his roles in 88 Minutes and also for Righteous Kill; Jessica Alba for The Guru and also for The Eye; Cameron Diaz for her role in What Happens In Vegas; Kate Hudson for Fool’s Gold and My Best Friend’s Girl and finally Mark Wahlberg for The Happening and Max Payne
The parodies Disaster Movie and Meet The Spartans earned six nominations for their uninspired writer-director team; In The Name Of The King received five and The Happeneing received four.
Uwe Boll, the director of In the Name of the King, was announced to receive the first Worst Career Achievement Razzie since 1987.
The nominees are selected by almost 700 voters and appear just before the Oscar nominations are announced. The results will be presented on February 21 during a ceremony that is usualy skipped by the nominees. There have been some exceptions, with Tom Green appearing on stage to receive his Razzie and also Halle Berry, being a good sport, went to the event to pick up her prize for her role in Catwoman.
