Stephenie Meyer has put on ice the release of “Midnight
Sun,” an upcoming novel of the bestselling “Twilight” saga, after an unfinished
draft of her work was illegally posted on the Internet without her authorization.
“It is important for everybody to understand that what
happened was a huge violation of my rights as an author, not to mention me as a
human being,” Stephenie Meyer wrote on her Web site last week. In addition to
this, the author explained she did not want her book to be released until it
was complete, “so it is on hold indefinitely.”
The four novels in the series, “Twilight,” “New Moon,”
“Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn,” had great success worldwide and the fans were
anxious to find out the “Twilight” story from the perspective of attractive teenage
vampire Edward, who was due to make his “confession” in the “Midnight Sun.”
However, as a result of the disclosure of 12 chapters from
her still-in-progress book, Stephenie Meyer decided to publish all of her work
on the Web site, nevertheless warning that “the writing is messy and flawed and
full of mistakes.”
“This way, my readers don’t have to feel they have to make a
sacrifice to stay honest,” the author wrote on stepheniemeyer.com.
Moreover, the writer explained she knew who posted the
chapters on the Internet, as she had handed out only a few copies of “Midnight
Sun” and “each was unique.” Stephenie Meyer did not mention any names, saying
that she believed the person who was responsible for the leak had “no malicious
intent with the initial distribution.”
Fans should not despair, however. “Twilight,” the movie
inspired by Meyer’s eponymous best-selling novel, is due for release in
November.
